Date 12th February 2024 On the 20th October 2020 it was agreed by the committee that the pits would not allow pets. This was mainly due to dogs leaving poo parcels on the complex. It has recently come to the attention of some members that we have one or maybe more dogs being walked within the complex and some are leaving poo parcels. If any member sees dogs on the complex please have a quiet word with their owners informing them the pits do not allow pets inside the gate. If Members are found to be walking their animals around the pits they may be banned from the club. This will be the last chance to renew your membership for the forthcoming season. Anyone not paying by this date will have deemed to be not renewing their membership. Date 11th January 2024 During last night's Committee meeting Peter Harwood and Steve Rouse gave notice of their intention of resigning from their respective positions of Chairman and Treasurer at our next AGM in October. After 8 years as Chair Peter feels it's time for someone else to take over the reins, as does Steve having done a similar time as Treasurer. The club would like to take this oppurtunity of thanking them for their hard work during their time in office and only hope that their successors live up to the high standards they have acheived. Anyone interested in either of these roles should notify our Secretary Clive Spelman of their intention to stand for election at our AGM in October.. Date 04th January 2024 Today I have visited the pits for a pleasure session. On arrival there was 1 member fishing B 23 who informed me that he had not had a bite. I decided to fish A Pit Peg 3, fishing hard against the Island with the water very clear i realised it would be difficult. After about 20 minutes I hooked a small roach and during the next 3 hours I had a few bites catching another 6 roach of which 1 was just under a pound. During my stay another 2 members turned up along with a visit from 3 Cormorants but as soon as they noticed anglers were fishing they decided not to stop for lunch but to continue on their travels. It has been reported that the pits again this year are having Cormorant problems but hopefully with members back fishing the Pits again they will think twice about stopping at the Pits. We are in winter and the fishing will be hard but on a nice day without rain I can't think of many places I would rather be. Date 02nd January 2024 Today members of the committee went to the Pits to assess the conditions of the Pits. It was agreed that the Pits would open to members and season ticket holders only from Thursday 04th January 2024. However due to the conditions that B Pit pegs 1 to 15 and high numbers of C Pit are in, these Pegs would will be closed off for fishing due to health and safety issues. All other pegs would be fishable. Please ensure you leave all the gates closed at all times All members and season ticket holders will have the gate codes on their membership cards. Anyone interested in Fishing must contact Kevin to book in as there are limited pegs. Date Thursday 21st Decembers 2023 Peter Harwood (Chairman MADAC) and the committee would like to wish all Members, Season Ticket Holders and Day Ticket anglers a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and a Prosperous and Healthy New Year. Date Wedmesday 13th December 2023 It has come to our knowledge that certain people are walking round the Pits feeding the fish in its flooded state. The water is still very high in places and unfortunately parts of the bank will be obscured by the depth of the water. This is obviously a risky business, so can we suggest that if anybody wants to go and feed the fish they wear a lightweight lifesaving device whilst wandering around on their own. The water temperature is very cold at the moment so if anyone should accidently fall in this could be very serious indeed, especially if there is nobody around. Please take care near water at all times, but especially during the winter. Date Wednesday 13th December 2023 Today some of the committee visited Martham Pits to review the flooding situation. It was a unanimously agreed that the Pits will stay closed for the forseable future. This is due to the water level still causing concerns and for Health and Safety reasons. The committee will review again in early January, but until then the Pits will be closed to any Fishing Merry Xmas and a Happy New year from all the committee of Martham and District Angling Club Date Friday 24the November 2023 UPDATE ON PITS. Good News. The water level has started to drop. Bad News. We are a long way from being at the level where it will be safe for the club to assess the damage and make repairs to allow members to fish again. UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE THE PITS WILL CONTINUE TO BE CLOSED. Date Monday 13th November 2023 Due to current situation at the pits it has been agreed that the Xmas Match on Sunday 3rd December will not be able to take place on that date. If conditions change we may decide to run the match in the new year. I will update you on any decisions made nearer the time. Date Friday 10th November 2023 FURTHER UPDATE TO THE FLOODING ON THE PITS:. There is a real possibility that when the flood water subsides some fish may get stranded on paths or the wooded areas. We would like to ask for Volunteers to help us move marooned fish. When the water level is low enough we will post on here for volunteers. At the moment the level is too high. Please keep an eye on this page for news. Thanks in anticipation. The committee will make a further anouncement when the pits are safe to fish again, All matches at the pits have been cancelled for the forseeable future. Micky Harman and his gang of helpers have done a great job. On arrival at the start of the River there was a Notice Board with MARTHAM ANGLING CLUB Members Only, Nice reception. 22 pegs all with their number on and most of them having a pallet covering the grass which had been recently cut along with the walkway by Shaun Randell. Fishing the match today was 15 anglers who were spread out between Peg 1 and Peg 22 which consisted of Full Members, Season Ticket Members and River Members all of which I had a little banter with. It is amazing the conversations you can have with a bunch of guys who all love the sport of Angling. No one would admit to what they had caught, it was no different to all those club matches I have fished over the years. NEVER BELEIVE WHAT AN ANGLER TELLS YOU!!!! I know the fishing was not that great however everyone was confident it would get better as the year moves on. One of the best stretches of the river Bure and we as a club have the rights to fish it. After speaking to various members it was apparent that a big thanks goes to Micky Harman for managing this River stretch with a lot of help from Shaun Randell, Richard Jacobs, James Bensley and Colin Blake and to those who I have missed out, thank you, If any Member wants to fish the River at OBY do not forget you must contact Michael Harman. 26 July 2021 A Night Club Match is being organised for any Member/Season Ticket Holder for ths coming Saturday July 31th 2021. Anyone interested please contact Kevin Tear to book in and ask any questions. 11th July 2021 Today I decided to go and have a look around the Pits as I had not been for 3 weeks. I was amazed at how well the site looked. I appreciate there are still projects ongoing such as the completion of the solar system and the fence replacement. While walking around checking tickets etc I could not beleive the praise i was receiving from day ticket anglers and even members! A big thank you to everyone who puts in so much hard work to make it look like it does. Special thanks go to Peter Harwood and Steven Rouse for all the hours they spend making it a special fishery. Also to Dennis Brown, Gavin Debbage, Richard Boyce, Dave Cholerton and Dave Tungate, Paul Punchard, Andy Holland, Freddie Holland and Melvyn Medler and all of the Committee Members for all the time they have put in during the lock downs. I would also like to thank the members who go down and pick up litter, I have never seen the pits so litter free. 05th July 2021 The Match at OBY this coming Sunday has a couple of spaces for Club Members and Season Tickets. If you are interested in Fishing this match please contact Michael Harman. 04th July 2021 The Website is getting more and more popular with over 800 page visits in the last 7 Days. As there are limited pegs if you want to fish you must contact Martin Lockwood to book in. 09 May 2021 Today the club match was taking part at Great Ellingham so the club secretary thought he would take the opportunity to have a day in C pit fishing for silvers. Not easy trying to catch silvers in a Carp Puddle (As it has been called by certain anglers) From previous results in matches it was fishing OK but not great. I started fishing at 8 metres on the bottom with maggot and feeding micro pellet. After 30 minutes I had my first bite and landed a 3lb bream. 3 and a half hours later I had 14 more bream upto 4lb, god knows how many scimmers and roach upto 1lb and a tench. I guess I had about 60lb of fish. Not bad for a novice and considering I was expecting to get plagued by carp. With the new oxygen system in place and the weather looking to improve I can only see it gettng better. 04 May 2021 Membership renewal is now complete for the current year. Membership is full and the reserve list is also full. The starting times etc may change going forward depending on Dusk times. Please note some matches are Tuesday and some are Wednesday. All fixtures are in MATCH DATES. 21 April 2021 Purely in the interest of the small carp that were put into D PIT last October for feeding and eventually moving to other pits, the Committee has decided that the Nets and Bottles that were put in as a deterent to Cormorants in the winter months will be keep in the water until the end of the summer. Members can still fish D PIT but only between the platforms and the first row of Bottles. 05 April 2021 A REMINDER FOR ALL ANGLERS THE PITS WILL BE CLOSED FOR ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE ON THIS COMING SATURDAY 10TH APRIL 2021 AND SUNDAY 11TH APRIL 2021 FOR ALL FISHING. Membership renewal is due by 31st March 2021. If you do not wish to renew or have an issue with payment then please contact the membership co ordinator on 07909 651473 or email [email protected] Membership renewal this year is £80 for Adults and £25 for Juniors between the age of 14 and under 18 on or before 01st April 2021. 06 March 2021 It seems there are still certain members who are still not getting the message about left litter at the Pits. The number of beer bottles which are getting left there is totally irresponsible. We know it's members as this happened frequently before March 1st when day tickets resumed. We have even had a complaint from Martham Boat Dyke Trust about the litter problem at the Pits and the surrounding area. This has to stop, if any member is found to have left litter at his peg, or the car park they will face possible banning from Martham Pits and expulsion from the club. 05 March 2021 The club is looking for a person to become Minute Secretary, This position will envolve working with the committee and attending all committee meetings. At the meetings the Minute Secretary will be responsible for organising the agenda, reporting on the previous meeting and then taking the minutes. Any Member interested in taking on this role please apply to Peter Harwood on 07863160473 28 February 2021 It has become more and more apparent over the past few years that anglers using the pits are not abiding by the environment and club rules over leaving rods unattended while fishing. The Environment states:- Fishing rods The number of rods you can use at the same time depends on the water you’re fishing in and the fish you’re trying to catch. MADAC have agreed that no more than 2 Rods can be used at any time. You must make sure that the distance between the butts of the outermost rods isn’t more than 3 metres when fishing with multiple rods and lines. It’s illegal to leave a rod and line in the water unattended or over which you don’t have sufficient control. The committee has decided that If anyone is found not adhearing to these rules the angler breaking these rules will be addressed with possibilties of being banned from the PITS. 26 February 2021 To all current members, it is that time of the year again when membership renewal is due. If you want to renew then payment must be made by 31st March 2021. If you do not wish to renew or have an issue with payment then please contact the membership co ordinator on 07909 651473 or email [email protected] The club will be contacting all current members by email or mobile phone txt over the next few days so please keep an eye out. Membership renewal this year is £80 for Adults and £25 for Juniors between the age of 14 and under 18 on or before 01st April 2021. 26 February 2021 On Monday March 1st 2021 the Pits will once again be open for Day Tickets. The charges for day tickets when paying at the CO-OP in Martham or at AJB Angling at Ludham Bridge are as follows:- Juniors aged 14 to 18 £5 per day Juniors aged under 14 are free but must be accompanied by a paying adult. Adults aged over 18 £8 per day Weekly tickets are available £35 per 7 day pass. Opening times Dawn till Dusk. STRICKLY NO REFUNDS. These day tickets do not apply for the club water at OBY. 02 February 2021 It is with great sadness I have to report that Club Stalwart and original Madac member Alan Plane passed away on Sunday morning. A tireless member who as Fisheries Manager for a number of years helped shape the Pits as we see them today. A keen Match Angler who won many trophies in the formative years of the club and right through to when his health took a downward turn. A very active committee member who was never afraid to say what he thought, he will be greatly missed. The club sends it's condolences to his wife Jenny and his three grown up children, Martin, Ian and Helen and the rest of his family. 06 January 2021 Yet another Government U turn, but a good one this time. As a result Martham Pits is open for fishing. PLEASE NOTE THAT GOVERNMENT GUIDELINES AND SOCIAL DISTANCING MUST BE ADHERED TO AS THE COMMITTEE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO SHUT THE PITS UNTIL AFTER THE LOCKDOWN. 05 January 2021 Following the governments decision regarding the newest lockdown the Martham Pits will be closed until further notice. 01 January 2021 As the pandemic restrictions continue we have been unable to hold Members meetings, but the Commitee have kept in touch via Zoom and when allowed private meeting rooms. Normally this time of year we would have the AGM in the first week of January, but this of course is impossible this year. In lieu of there being no AGM this year you may well have seen the video of our Chairman Peter Harwood (if not it is the Club Facebook Page) giving you a financial rundown and a list of proposals which the Committee had received. I can now inform the membership of what the Committee have decided for next year. 1: Membership fees will be raised to £80 for Seniors and £25 for Juniors as from this coming year. Memberships must be in by April 1st. 2: The big Carp in Pit A will be moved to the large part of Pit B therefore making Pit B the new 'Big fish' pit. This will allow the bivvy Anglers more access to them with more pegs than Pit A and allow the Carp to grow bigger in a larger environment. Pit A will become an all round fishery with Silver fish and small Carp. The big Pike will remain in Pit B as removing them would upset the ecological balance of the water. 3: The toilet will be installed when the Day tickets are issued, from March 1st to December 1st inclusive. 4: There was a proposal to shut the Pits for all Anglers on every Monday to protect the welfare of the fish. The Committee has decided not to do this at this time, but this will be closely monitored and if any over fishing becomes apparent a decision will be made to shut every Monday. All other Rules remain the same. 23 December 2020 Unfortunately due to the fact that Norfolk and Suffolk will be entering Tier 4 on Boxing day all planned matches will have to be postponed until further notice. 18 December 2020 FROM THE MARTHAM AND DISTRICT ANGLING CLUB COMMITTEE. A VERY MERRY XMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF OUR CLUB MEMBERS AND ALL OF YOU ANGLERS THAT FISHED THE PITS IN 2020. HOPEFULLY 2021 WILL BE A BETTER YEAR AND FISHING WILL BE AS GOOD IF NOT BETTER. TIGHT LINES. 14 December 2020 The Pits had a delivery of new fish today which included 2 year old Carp which went in Pit C. This years Carp that went in Pit D, some lovely Tench that also went in Pit D and a new species for the Pits Crucian Carp which also went into Pit D. The reason for putting the small fish into Pit D is to allow them to grow to a better size when they will be released into the other Pits. Thanks to everyone who helped with the delivery. 29 November 2020 After the latest govenrnment announcement regarding the tier system. Thursday matches will start again from this coming Thursday 3rd December 2020. The match will be a rover and the draw will take place at 08:30. 27 November 2020 The club would like to send its deepest condolences to the family of Brian Home after the sad news of his passing. Brian will be sadly missed by many of his friend at the fishing club. 25 November 2020 Now that the current lockdown is coming to a end. The committee have decided that as from next Wednesday at 18:00 the pits will only be open for members. The Pits will be closed for Day Tickets from Thursday 03rd December 2020 until 01st March 2021. 23 November 2020 All being well the Xmas Match will take place on Sunday 06th December 2020. Unfortunately the match is now fully booked. The Draw will take place at 08:30 on the Pits carpark with social distancing taking place. Fishing will commence at 09:30 with a break at 12:00 for a well deserved Breakfast Baguette and Tea or Coffee. Once again with social distancing being observed. The match will resume at about 12:30 and finish at 15:00. The weigh in and presentation will then be performed again with social distancing taking place. 05 November 2020 Martham Pits will be open to both members and Day ticket Anglers during the second Lockdown. The rule of 2 must be observed so all matches are cancelled. Social distancing must be observed at all times. 05 November 2020 Now Lockdown 2 is upon us all work parties will be cancelled for the foreseeable future, but the work still needs to be carried out somehow. Any persons wishing to take any of this work on should make contact with our Chairman Peter Harwood in the first instance on 07863 160473. Work that needs to be done throughout the winter includes trimming back of Willows, cutting back Reeds around banks and clearing up any debris and cuttings. Putting up ropes to keep our feathered friends out and making good any safety issues around fishing pegs. 04 November 2020 Martham Pits will be open to both members and Day ticket Anglers during the second Lockdown. The rule of 2 must be observed so all matches are cancelled. Social distancing must be observed at all times. 04 November 2020 With Lockdown upon us all work parties will be cancelled for the forseeable future, but it still remains that the work must be carried out somehow. 04 November 2020 Due the Covid19 lockdown over the next 4 weeks all club matches have been cancelled until further notice. The announcement was placed on the Angling Trust Website today:- The regulations are clear and you can only leave home to fish with members of your own household, your support bubble or with one other individual. The Rule of Six is now effectively the Rule of Two for most of us. The tightening of the rules on ‘gatherings’ means that match fishing or any other organised fishing event is prohibited by law during lockdown. However, competitive fishing will be able to resume once there is a return to the three tier system of restrictions. 22 October 2020 A decision has been made by the Committee that the Pits will be closed from Sunday 8th November 2020 until Monday 1st March 2021 for Day Tickets.
